A commonly used method for cooling concrete is to add cooled water to the concrete mix instead of water at the ambient temperature. Water at ambient temperature is cooled by means of a chiller and stored in a cold water basin, so that a supply is available for daily use.
In order to cool 1 m³ concrete by 1°C, approximately 33 kg of cold water at 5°C are required. With the total
amount of water – which must be added to the mix – a
temperature reduction of 3 to 5°C can be achieved. The cooled water system is relatively simple, easy to operate and requires little maintenance.
